Title:  Chair, Department of Neurology

 

Description:

Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield, Illinois is seeking a leader in Neurology education and training with expertise building clinical programs to serve as the Chairman of the Department of Neurology.  This is an exciting opportunity to expand and enhance an academic Neurology program vital to the residents of central and southern Illinois.

 

SIU School of Medicine recently celebrated its 40th anniversary and consistently receives national recognition for innovation in medical education while offering a welcoming environment for dedicated clinicians who love to teach.  Two major 500+ and 700+bed academic medical facilities serve the community and are teaching sites for SIU.  Together they serve the area as a Level 1 Trauma Center.

 

The Department of Neurology at Southern Illinois University is committed to excellence and innovative research in neuroscience and clinical therapeutics.   In conjunction with The Department of Surgery at Southern Illinois University and the area academic medical centers, the joint Neuroscience Program continues to develop as the preeminent program in Central Illinois for clinical research, teaching and care of patients suffering from cognitive, neurological and neurosurgical disorders.  The existing Center for Alzheimer Disease and Related Disorders is one of three designated Alzheimer Assistance Centers in the State of Illinois and has been designated as a Parkinson Disease and Movement Disorders Center.  The SIU Stroke Center utilizes a multidisciplinary approach to evaluate patients in both outpatient and inpatient settings and offers state of the art treatment options to improve outcomes including endovascular neurosurgery.

 

Highlights of the position and area include:

Qualifications:  BC in Neurology. Licensed or eligible for licensure to practice medicine in the state of Illinois.  Demonstrated leadership in teaching, scholarship and in developing clinical programs as well as a record of innovation and effective administration and fiscal leadership.  Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills are essential.  Established credentials in research are necessary for appointment at the full Professor level.
