St. John’s Hospital and Priority Care in Springfield, Illinois have joined together to expand their primary care network. St. John’s will be opening new offices throughout the Springfield area as well as in outlying communities. With the new offices opening, the hospital has several options for incoming physicians. These options include traditional primary care, inpatient, urgent care or a mix of these three settings. The work hours include four, eight and twelve hour shifts.
In 1878, St. John’s Hospital was the first hospital established in Springfield, Illinois. St. John’s is now the largest hospital in the Hospital Sisters Health System, a corporation of that includes 13 hospitals in Illinois and Wisconsin that developed from the original mission of 21 Sisters. For over 120, St. John’s has continued the tradition of excellence and compassion in health care – adopting the latest medical techniques to provide comprehensive care for the people of central Illinois. As a major teaching hospital, we help to educate more than 300 medical students and 150 resident physicians each year through our affiliation with the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine.
Priority Care (formerly Urgent Care) was founded in 1984 as the first primary care and walk-in clinic in Springfield. All patients who visit Priority Care are seen by board certified physicians who are committed to providing an outstanding patient experience. These primary care physicians serve more than 20,000 people in Springfield and surrounding communities. Many of these patients have been coming to Priority Care for more than 20 years.
In October 2008, Priority Care merged with St. John’s hospital to become the most recognized provider of quality health care in Springfield, Illinois. This newly formed physician group, Hospital Sisters Health System (HSHS) Group, is physician driven allowing leadership opportunities for all physicians who join.
